Each country and/or region embodies a distinct look or style.
And that look or style has often been dismissed as something far away from what is considered to be on trend in the broader sense. For example, in Korea, the category referred to as "Aje," meaning an old man, has often been overlooked as "Bokgo," or, for lack of a better word, "vintage," for no other reason than being too common and familiar.
But now, the world is heavily intertwined, and "Bokgo" has taken on a new meaning—to some, it is not merely a recreation of the familiar from the past but something of the old that is yet to be explored: an unknown. And as we have shifted to digital, there is a newfound yearning for the analog among the younger generation. A case in point—Kiko Kostadinov, a rising designer
associated with the "gorpcore" craze, was very impressed with Seoul's Dongmyo Vintage market (the oldest in the city) and even said the "Aje" looks he encountered during the visit were very inspirational. The unfamiliar from the past… is now in the spotlight.
